Arrived in Cape Town

Most of us arrived in South Africa this morning after a long journey from Minneapolis via Chicago and London. We got to Kolbe House by about 8:30 and had just a short time to clean up as best we could for church. Bleery-eyed or not, we couldn’t miss the unexpected opportunity to hear Kim Vrudny (one of our trip leaders) give the homily at St. George’s Cathedral.

Will post more details later on, but wanted to let everyone know that we arrived safely and are settling in. Looking forward to sleep tonight. Going to see penguins tomorrow.

  1. Sounds like it was quite an exhausting journey! I’m so glad to hear you all arrived safely. Pictures of the penguins (or anything else, really) would be a delightful treat if you are able! Sending love to all the travelers, ~Leslie

  2. All of you are in our thoughts and prayers as you being your sojourn and reflections in South Africa. Penquins seem like a great welcoming party to new adventures. Love from Luna, Helen and John

    • Who knew?! We learned that African penguins are an endangered species. Back in 1910, there were an estimated 1.5 million birds. The colony we visited started with just 2 breeding pairs in 1982 and has grown to about 2,200.

      • FYI when you all come back home you can take a field trip to Como Zoo and see the African Penguins up close in Minnesota! The penguins at the zoo are taken along on educational programs and have been spotted at many metro area schools. Thank you all for your stories. Peace to you.

  3. Yeah, the “…most of us…” comment was a little disconcerting until I remembered that Shelley said there were a couple that went ahead. Hope to see a group picture soon so that I can show it to the folks at Shelley’s church, since they’ve been asking about her. Praying that everyone will stay safe!

    • Sorry to worry you! Yes we did have a few different arrival schedules, but we are all here now. We’ll get a group picture up soon. Dealing with a few Internet access hiccups.
